1-Department of Hearing and Speech Pathology New

About

Taibah University in Medina has created a new academic specialization for the bachelor’s level at the College of Medical Rehabilitation Sciences (Bachelor of Hearing and Speech Pathology) for the academic year 1445 AH, in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and consistent with its strategy for programmatic transformation that is compatible with the requirements of the labor market in the public and private sectors.

The specialty of treating hearing and speech pathology is one of the rare medical rehabilitation specialties, despite the urgent need for the services of graduates of this specialty, not only at the level of the Medina region and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but also at the level of the Arab region and many countries of the world. The importance of this specialty lies in its connection with the most important functions in the human body, which are closely related to his quality of life, which is hearing, balance, speech, communication, perception, and swallowing. Therefore, graduates of this specialty deal with patients of different age groups who suffer from diseases or disorders in hearing, balance, language, speech, perception, and swallowing

Program Goals

  • Providing a high-quality hearing and speech therapy program in accordance with academic accreditation guidelines from the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Evaluation
  • - Preparing audiology and speech pathology specialists who are scientifically and
  • Preparing audiology and speech pathology specialists who are scientifically and professionally qualified to keep pace with the needs of society and the labor market.
  • Raising the quality of life of the individual and society in the Medina region and the Kingdom in general by providing awareness services in the field of hearing and speech pathology that contribute to completing the system of medical rehabilitation services.
  • - Building skills in clinical scientific research and evidence-based practice in the field of treating hearing and speech disorders
*This specialty qualifies to work in government and private hospitals (outpatient clinics, inpatient and intensive care departments), government and private medical rehabilitation centers and clinics, stethoscope companies, and public and private universities. The duration of the program is 4 years. Qualifies to obtain professional certificates. Graduates of the program will be eligible to apply to the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties to obtain a license to practice the profession as an audiologist or speech therapist.

2-Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics

About

This specialty is concerned with studying scientific methods based on medical and engineering foundations and evidence in all scientific and practical fields related to prosthetic limbs and orthoses to enhance intellectual growth and manual skills to benefit from prosthetic limbs for those who have lost one of their limbs (legs or hands), in addition to the orthoses that are used in Treatment of orthopedic injuries as a part of the treatment plan for patients.

The prosthetist specializes in:

  • -Receiving the patient referred to the service, listening to his medical history, and examining him clinically
  • -Ensure that the patient needs a prosthetic limb, splint, or orthosis and explain this to the patient
  • - Taking the necessary measurements to manufacture the limb or orthosis and ensuring that there is no obstacle preventing its installation
  • -Ensure its effectiveness and the patient’s ability to cope with it
  • - Clarifying the treatment plan for the patient and his family to cooperate with him and to perform some exercises that enhance the patient’s ability to adapt to the prosthetic limb

Guided by the World Association for Prosthetics ISPO in developing a plan and program for prosthetics.

Taibah University allowed female students to be accepted during the year 1445 AH in the specialty of prosthetics and Orthotics at the College of Medical Rehabilitation Sciences, which is the first of its kind in the Kingdom and the Arabian Gulf.

3-Department of Physical Therapy

About

The department grants a bachelor's degree in physical therapy, and the department works to prepare distinguished national cadres and qualify them to work in various health facilities. This department is concerned with studying scientific and physical methods for rehabilitating patients and the disabled, especially after injuries to the locomotor system or after surgical operations, to work on improving or restoring human motor functions. Maximizing movement ability, alleviating pain, and treating or preventing physical challenges associated with injuries and diseases to improve a person’s quality of life. It is also concerned with working to prevent any permanent complications after an injury, alleviating pain, and increasing the speed of recovery from some injuries.

This specialty is concerned with studying scientific methods for any diagnostic or therapeutic intervention for patients in general and for respiratory patients in particular.

The respiratory therapist specializes in

  • -Providing respiratory care for patients in general and for respiratory patients in particular Intervention in emergency cases to provide patients with oxygen in case of respiratory failure or cardiopulmonary failure
  • -Performing specialized diagnostic tests for the respiratory system
  • -Performing specialized diagnostic tests for the respiratory system
  • - Operating artificial respirators and ensuring their effectiveness
  • - Monitoring the patient’s response to respiratory therapy by measuring vital signs, arterial blood gases, blood chemistry, and lung efficiency through respiratory functions and submitting this as a report to the treating physician.
  • - Helping patients practice improving their breathing after surgeries, as well as patients with neuromuscular diseases
  • - Health education and clarifying the respiratory treatment plan for the patient and his family, as well as explaining ways to prevent respiratory diseases.
